Kidderbrook Montessori School began as a tiny community of five children in 1989. The school serves now more than 30 students from Ashford and the surrounding towns.
Our approach to education is based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the world's most respected educators. In our classrooms joy and delight in learning are matched by the values of hard work, self-discipline and integrity.
Here, children develop the skills of learning not only for school, but also for life. In an atmosphere of calm and order the children learn to manipulate enticing materials and through their exploration develop inner discipline and foster their natural curiosity. Given the proper amount of guidance and freedom, the children develop a positive sense of self and of their community. The role of our teachers is to act as a vital link between the children and their surroundings.
Our classrooms are beautifully prepared and enriched with a broad array of Montessori materials and activities and motor coordination, independence and language are cultivated. Besides the concrete math materials that are used to illustrate abstract concepts, our classrooms offer activities for practical life, art, science, geography and music. Our teachers recognize each child as a unique individual longing to explore, unfold and blossom.
